A tubular tyre, or more commonly known as a "tub" is a tyre that is stitched around the inner tube to form the circular tyre. It is then glued onto a specially designed tubular rim, when buying wheels you can normally specify between clincher or tubular builds.
Punctured tubular tyres require more time to repair than clincher tyres. The tyre must be removed from the rim, opened up, patched (we use only the best quality Velox materials) before being carefully stitched back together, then finally glued back on to the rim.
There is nothing better than racing on tubs. The sound and feel is unrivalled. Tubular tyres are mainly used in professional racing but have found a good following on the amateur racing circuit too.
It isn't just on the track where tubular tyres are used, you can see them being used in road racing, time trials and cyclo-cross. Tubular tyres are also very popular with triathletes too.
Tubular tyres are great for racing as they can be pumped up to very high pressures compared to clinchers.
